The uncertain relationship between moving three-dimensional objects and the sequence of images in the resulting two-dimensional projections.  Three objects of different sizes, at different distances and in different orientations moving at different speeds in 3-D space all project the same image sequence. Thus an image sequence cannot uniquely specify the underlying sources of motion stimuli.
